Nâzım Hikmet ile Vâlâ Nurettin Bolu’da yeterince etkin olmadıklarını düşünerek devrimin olduğu topraklara gitmeye karar verirler. Batum’a geçerler. 1922 yılında Moskova’da Komintern bünyesinde eğitim veren Doğu Emekçileri Komünist Üniversitesi (KUTV) hazırlık sınıfına kaydolurlar. Bu sırada Muhittin Birgen ve kızı Nüzhet de Moskova’dadırlar ve Nâzım Hikmet, Nüzhet ile kısa bir evlilik yapar.

Peygamber çiçeği mavisi Rus gözleri ve kızıl saçlarıyla 19 yaşındaki Türk delikanlısı, 1921 yılında Sovyet Rusya’ya ilk kez ayak bastığında, her ne kadar İç Savaş nedeniyle çoktan kana bulanmış olsa da, bir ülkü diyarına gelmişti. Chagall hâlâ propaganda gösterileri için dekorlar hazırlıyor; Maleviç, Rodçenko, Larionov, Gonçarova, Filonov, Falk ve Lentulov gibi avangard sanatçılar sergiler açıyor; Mayakovski şiir okuyan bir Eyfel Kulesi gibi bütün meydanlarda gürlüyor ve koca göbekli burjuvaları devrimin acımasız süngüsünün ucuna geçirilmiş halde gösteren propaganda posterleri asıyor; Ayzenştayn Potemkin Zırhlısı’nda, o gün bugündür bir sürü filmde hoplaya zıplaya aşağı inmeye devam eden bir bebek arabasını Odessa’daki merdivenlerden aşağı itiyor; İsadora Duncan çıplak ayaklarına yapışan ayçekirdeği kabuklarını görmezden gelmeye çalışarak Kızıl Ordu askerleri için dans ediyor; devrimin büyük tiyatro yönetmeni Meyerhold, çok geçmeden Lubyanka’nın kana bulanmış bodrumlarında hortumla dövüleceğini aklına bile getirmeden, yeri göğü sarsan oyunlarını sahneliyordu.

1921 yılı Ocak ayı, Nâzım’la Vâlâ Nurettin’in Batum’a geçtiği tarih. Aynı zamanda Türkiye Komünist Partisi’ni 1920 Eylül’ünde Bakü’de kurmuş olan Mustafa Suphi ve arkadaşlarının, Aralık sonunda Kars üzerinden Türkiye’ye giriş tarihiyle çakışıyor. Bu partinin kurucusu olan Mustafa Suphi, Ethem Nejat ve on beş arkadaşı 28-29 Ocak 1921’de Karadeniz’de hayatlarını verirken, Nâzım’la Vâlâ komünizme yelken açıyorlar. Böyle bir de tarihsel, trajik buluşma var.

Bizim Karadeniz kıyılarından bir kıyı. Suphilerin motoru geceleyin geldi bu kıyıların önüne ve pır pır eden ışık parçacıklarını gördüler yalnız. Belki de görmediler. Belki de buram buram kar yağıyordu. Deniz durgun muydu, dalgalı mı? Motorun tayfası, teknelerindeki yolcuların öldürüleceklerini biliyordu. Bunu bile bile, sanki hiçbir şey olmayacakmış gibi konuştular mı onlarla? Belki onlara tütün ikram ettiler, belki cigaralarından yaktılar cigaralarını. Suphiler neler konuştu kendi aralarında? Öldürüleceklerini getirmediler mi akıllarına?
