Nâzım Hikmet dostlarının gelişmesi ve üretmesi için elinden geleni yapan bir yol göstericidir. 1940 yılında Bursa Cezaevi’nde aynı koğuşta kalacağı Raşit Kemali adındaki şiir meraklısı genç iki buçuk yıllık bir eğitim sürecinden sonra öyküler yazmaya başlar, ünlenir. Orhan Kemal adıyla tanıyacağımız Türk edebiyatının önemli isimlerinden biri haline gelir.

‘Peki kardeşim, bütün bu laf ebeliklerine ne lüzum var? Samimiyetle duymadığınız şeyleri niçin yazıyorsunuz? Bakın, aklı başında bir insansınız… Duyduklarınızı, hiçbir zaman duymayacağınız tarzda yazıp komikleştirmekle kendi kendinize iftira ettiğinizin farkında değil misiniz?’
Bütün kanım tepemden ayaklarıma iniyor ve bir kağıt tomarından ibaret ‘şiirlerim’ elimden desteyle düşüyor, artık okumuyorum…
Nâzım Hikmet boyuna anlatıyordu. Sık sık ‘realizm’ ve ‘aktif realizm’ kelimelerinin geçtiği uzun bir konuşma yaptı. Ne yalan söyleyeyim, hiçbir şey anlamadım. İçimde muazzam bir alem yıkılmıştı. Samimiliğine, bir türlü inanamadığım, yıkılması gereken, yalancı, sahte, haksız inanışlardan kurulmuş, temeli çürük bir alem.
‘Şimdi siz de benimkini dinler misiniz?’
Kendime geldim. Göz göze idik. İlave etti:
‘Ama, asla hatıra, gönüle bakmak yok! Siz de beni tenkit edeceksiniz, hem de olanca insafsızlığınızla.’

Şimdi Raşitçiğim, teknik bir noktaya temas edeceğim. Şiirde olsun, nesirde olsun, virgül, noktalı virgül ve hatta noktanın yardımıyla kurulan cümleler, yani bu noktalama işareti olmazsa, manası karışabilen cümleler sakat cümlelerdir.
Bir misal vereyim. ‘İki kocakarı, alay mutfağının arkasındaki arsada ıslak toprağa karşılıklı oturmuşlardı.’
Burada iki kocakarı’dan sonra konan virgül sayesinde cümle mana kazanıyor. Virgülü kaldırırsan, iki kocakarı alay mutfağı, gibi acayip bir mana çıkıyor. Bu cümleyi şöyle kurmak lazımdır:
Alay mutfağının arkasındaki arsada ıslak toprağa iki kocakarı karşılıklı oturmuştu. Bunu şöyle rasgele aldım. Bizim yazarlar buna hiç dikkat etmiyor. Sana tavsiyem, cümleyi virgülsüz, noktalı virgülsüz filan, anlaşılabilecek bir şekilde kurmaya çalış, virgülsüz filan, sonra yardımcı bir unsur olarak kullan, hatta istersen hiç kullanma.

Bugün realizm iki istikamette inkişaf etmektedir. Bir istikamet, ekzistansiyalizme kadar dayanan, mürteci ve insanı topyekûn kapkara gören ümitsiz, boktan ve eninde sonunda realiteyle bağını koparan cereyandır. Ötekisi ise yeni ve yaratıcı bir çeşit romantizmle birleşen ve sanatkârın bir ruh mühendisi olduğunu kabul eden, bundan dolayı da eninde sonunda realiteyi en iyi ifade eden cereyandır. Senin bazı hikâyelerin, yalnız kederli değil, aynı zamanda ümitsiz. Zaten bilhassa son yıllarda, gayet malum sebeplerle, bilhassa da hikâyecilerimizde, bir temayül çoğalmaktadır. Realite, bizzat tarihi akışıyla realite, ümitsiz değildir, kederli, mahsun, acı, alacakaranlık, korkunç, iğrenç, rezil, kepaze filan falan tarafları vardır, bu tarafları aksettirmekte en ufak bir ihmal, insanlığı tek taraflı, tozpembe bir ışıkla vermek olur ve realiteden uzaklaşılır, fakat bütün bunlara rağmen bu realite yine insanların eliyle daha iyiye, daha güzele doğru gelişme yolundadır. Gelişen şey ise ümitsiz değildir, sevinçsiz değildir.
